Regal Raptors

"Nesting Osprey"

"Female Osprey"

"Male Osprey"

"Kestral"

"Almost Mature Bald Eagle"

My favorite bird to see at the other end of the lens....Raptors!  I have enjoyed watching a pair of nesting Osprey's nearby for 2 years now.  It is amazing how resilient and tenacious they can be, neither storms blowing their nests off nor seagulls attacking the brooding female appear to keep these two from raising their babies.

Ducks...Ducks...and more Ducks

"Barrows Golden eye"

"Ruddy Duck"

"Canvasback "

"Northern Shoveller?"

"Redhead"
He is slightly different than the one 2 Above

"Cinnamon Teal"

"American Widgeon"
another Ocean going stopover, grey to brown heads with brown bodies

"Barn Swallow"

"Violet Green Swallow"

"Northern Flicker"

"Yellow Headed Blackbird"

Being a relatively new Birder, I never knew there were so many types of ducks....I have put a sampling for you to see what one day's drive between Kamloops and Vancouver yielded for Duck Viewing. I have a couple of unknowns, so if you find them in your book or know what they are, this critter watcher would sure like to know what they are. Then there's this whole science of figuring out if they are "Adult" or mature as their feathers can change color, male and female are usually easy to spot as the plain ones are the females....
A duck is not a duck by any other name!

Some oldies but goodies!

"Life Lessons"
"Ever Watchful"

"Clamming 101"

"Serious Studying"

For those of you who have followed our "Alaskan Journey & All Points inbetween" here are some oldies taken in the last few years that I love to view over and over again.  We are respectful of the wildlife and spend hours from a far viewing.  I use a 75/300 ml lens so we are not close enough to cause duress to these all of the animals and their young.

Critter Creation Inception

"Burrowing Owl" - Kamloops, BC

A love of photography, nature, the sea and a new job at BC Nature, has inspired me to share my photographs of all things nature. I have become so much more aware of my surroundings when out in the wilderness and hope you enjoy the view as much as I enjoyed creating the sights!
